Food Story Photo Contest Update

Raspberries - Food Stories Blog Follow Me on Pinterest

Happy National Raspberry Tart Day!

Recently, I made a monthly contest out of our food photos and the winner (as voted by the readers) will receive a $25 foodie gift certificate! The contest is open to all entrants from around the world, no limitations! You can read all the details on the announcement post or on the actual Food Story Photo Contest page.

Unfortunately, this week there were no new submissions. Each Saturday, I like to feature the newest submissions and provide an update as to the top three images, so far, as voted by our loyal Food Stories readers. All current contest entries can be viewed on the July/August Food Story Photo Submission page. Please take a moment to scroll through and vote for your favorites! There’s no limit to the number of votes so feel free to vote as much as you want :-)

Votes will be accepted through the end of August and then the winner will be announced in the first week of September.

Here are the top three images this week (by readers votes):

First Place (so far):

Walnut Cookies - Lea @ Leas Cooking

I have to admit that I’m a little disappointed with not having new submissions, this week, and the response to the contest itself has been far less than I expected. Let’s have a heart-to-heart, shall we? You can be honest with me, I promise :-)

  • Is an ongoing contest for food photos even interesting to you, at all?
  • Is the concept of the photo too much to ask for? Maybe you’d rather just submit any food photo.
  • Submission process too difficult?
  • Prize not the best choice for the contest?
  • Voting … too much work or would you rather have a judging panel?
  • Food Pics … Maybe you just want to look at food porn and go on about your day (like Food Gawker or Tastespotting)?

I want the site to be fun and engaging so just share your thoughts with me. In only a few months, Food Stories has grown dramatically with the page views going up consistently. Since you’re already here, what types of things would you like to see? I mean, you’re already here so you might as well enjoy yourself, right?

If you would prefer for your comments to remain anonymous then just make up a name/email to enter your comments. Visitors to the site are the reason why I’m here so please share your thoughts with me :-)

Have a great weekend :-)

What do you think?

  1. I love taking pictures, but I am not very good at props. Pedestrian at best. Still I love to be a part of contests, even if I know I am not the best It’s the fun of it. But when I am winning??? I am absolutely thrilled!!!!!
This contest is even more special because I never asked my friends to vote for me and still people have liked it. That’s so encouraging and humbling at the same time.
CJ, your contests are fabulous. Please keep them going. Your photo contest is especially unique. The idea of story behind a food is so unique!
Meanwhile, I am going to work on two more submissions this week, promise.

  2. I’m all for voting but I get intimidated to submit. Don’t claim to be a photographer and still trying to learn the tricks!

  3. I think it sounds like a great idea & I may have to work on a submission myself!

  4. I haven’t submitted anything because I am a perfectionist, and I know my photos are mediocre at best. BUT I like looking at the photos. And voting. Although I don’t really count because I can’t be discriminating and I want to vote for ALL TEH PHOTOS

  5. I’m still working on improving my photos, so entering a contest based on the photos is a little daunting…but I’m going to check it out :)

  6. Tomato Gazpacho with croutons looks fanfreakingtastic!
I hardly enter any contest/giveaway because most of them are not international. And whenever fellow blog friends ask for support and vote for them, I don’t hesitate.

  7. The pics are certainly wonderful. As for me, I am not into contest and just happy sharing my recipes on my blog.

  8. Same as Charlie my friend, I am sorry for not entering – fiurthermore, I thought being a Food Stories judge also eliminated me – when I have a beautiful photo, I will definitely submit it :D
Would you like me to advertise this opportunity in a post??

    Cheers

    • No one is eliminated from this one since the blog readers do the judging. I would love to get one of your lovely photos. If you wanted to share this contest, I would love it … Thx for the offer, CCU :-)

  9. Hi CJ, I didn’t go in it because as I can’t use the prize here in Australia I thought that automatically disqualified me from entering xx

    • Thanks for sharing that with me, Charlie. I may not have explained the contest very well then because it was always my intent to allow worldwide participation. It’s also one of the reasons why I left the “foodie gift certificate” kind of vague because I may have had to find a retailer that sells in other countries. Thanks for letting me know this :-)

  10. Honestly? I submitted my photos before it was a contest….and I’d rather not have them in as voting. I always feel like that’s just a popularity contest. I mean, if you put up photos without telling who submitted them, maybe…but even then, there are watermarks and such, so? Plus people will tell their friends to vote. I don’t know, that’s just me (always been that way). I take food photos and food story photos because it’s who I am. I long ago quit trying to “be accepted” by food porn sites. So, I probably will not enter into a contest format. That said, I always like seeing others photos, so of course I’d still browse.

  11. I think I was confused about how it worked. I think I filled some stuff out and then thought I had made a submission…this was a few weeks ago. I promise I’ll start playing! As soon as I get back from holiday ;)

    • You’re too sweet. My feedback request is not about you guys having to jump in and do whatever I put out there, it’s more about finding out what works for you. I would love to hear any feedback, at all … Thx so much :-)
