Homemade Dog Food Recipes

Healthy Proteins are Essential

Healthy proteins are among the most important nutrients in a dog’s diet regime. They are essential for all areas of growth and development, and are essential in structural make up as well as the immunity process. In addition, proteins are used up as calories and could be converted to, and kept, as fat.

Carbs and Fat are Vital for Dogs

Even though the consumption of fat is generally thought about poorly in the human diet world, it’s a vital dietary requirement in a dog’s diet plan. Fats are powerful types of energy. Fat is also needed for common renal system processes, and also to help your pet sustain a wholesome coat and healthier skin. Along with proteins and fats, carbohydrates are essential within a dog’s diet as well. Since dogs are generally energetic, they need a clean source of carbs that may easily be utilized for energy.

Many Commercial Dog Food Companies are Fooling Us

Pet owners are being misled into thinking that pet food companies are providing the very best nutrients for dogs in their type of food. The listing of the protein level on sacks of dog food isn’t a listing of the percentage of digestible protein. The digestibility in high quality food is somewhere between 70 and 80 percent. In lesser-quality food, the digestibility could drop to 60 percent or less. Chicken byproduct and other meat byproducts, that are what several dog foods are made with, are acceptable although not high quality. Alternatively, meat and bone meal, which are also found in pet food, are lesser qualities of meat and thus less digestible. If grains are listed on the ingredients label, they are not good digestible protein sources either. They’re just contributing toward the carbohydrate load.

Monitor Your Dog’s Vitamin and Mineral Intake With Homemade Dog Food Recipes

Simply by feeding your dog wholesome, homemade dog food recipes, it is possible to carefully keep an eye on the vitamins and minerals you are offering your pet. Furthermore, you can properly give them the correct portion size for his or her breed of dog. What’s more, you may guide your pet away from such things as chemical preservatives, additives, and artificial flavoring. A lot of homemade dog food recipes require healthy food like bananas, honey, peanut butter, vegetables, apples, and pumpkins — plus nutritious meat such as fresh ground beef, chicken, turkey, and fish. Although some individuals choose to supply their dogs homemade meals since their dogs are identified as having a physical disease, need a particular diet plan, or are in competition training, other folks simply recognize that the manufacturer’s commercial dog food is certainly not a lot more than processed, low-quality food sprayed with fat making it more appetizing to dogs.

History & Uses of the Roll Refiners in Chocolate Processing

Roll refiners were being produced in Germany in the 1890s. These refiners utilized horizontal rolls made of granite. By the turn-of-the-century, vertical, five roll refiners came into use. In 1904, Joseph Baker and sons retrofitted a five roll refiner, by replacing the granite rolls with chilled steel rolls. They had encountered a problem with overheating while using granite rolls. While others were quite skeptical of the steel rolls, the advantage soon became quite apparent. The chilled rolls allowed for higher production; the close temperature control of the product, combined with the close tolerances, allowed for very fine grinding.Roll refiners were being produced in Germany in the 1890s. Common uses of Roll Refiners
The Refiner is used to blend the various components that are used in the chocolate recipe and also grind them to a smooth, taste bud pleasing, homogenous, consistency. As the individual particles of the various ingredients, passed between the rolls, they are broken down and smeared into the other ingredients. The individual rolls do not move at the same speed. As the chocolate is ground finer and finer, its viscosity changes. As it’s viscosity changes, it requires the rolls to move faster and faster. Early five roll refiners, used hand wheels to set the distance between the rollers. Modern five roll refiners, utilize hydraulic pressure. Some of these projects were: the development of early bulk dumping systems for unloading tomatoes from trucks, recovering waste pistachios that were not cracked when received, clarified juice systems that enabled processors to utilize over ripe fruit that they would have had to pay to haul off as waste. With the new clarified juice process, everyone came out the winner; the processor turned the over ripe fruit into sweet clarified juice that was then used in the canning process to replace those sugary syrups that had traditionally been used in canned fruit, like peaches, pears, fruit cocktail, etc., The consumer benefited by receiving a product that was all fruit.

History of the Longitudinal Conche

The Conche was invented by Rodolphe Lindt in Berne, Switzerland, in 1879. This invention was a landmark in the production of chocolate. Chocolate in its various forms has been used by humans for thousands of years. Early chocolate was nothing like the smooth, creamy confection that we enjoy today. It was a course, mostly unsweetened concoction made by grinding raw coco beans and then mixing it with water and adding herbs and spices. The result was a drink that while crude by today’s standards was highly regarded as a medicinal, even sacred elixir. The Conch was one such machine. It is reported that the discovery was made quite by accident; One story goes as follows; Mr. Lindt had a batch of chocolate in a stirring machine. It was Friday night and he forgot to turn it off. On Monday morning he discovered his oversight. Much to his surprise and delight he found that the batch of chocolate was not ruined, but was, in fact the best chocolate that he had ever eaten; it was smooth in his mouth, with less sour notes, it was sweet, but without the sharp sugary sweetness that was characteristic in chocolate of the day. The ingredients that comprise the chocolate were blended into a homogenous, smooth flowing, much improved product.

The early conches were shaped like a seashell, thus the name Conche; the French word for shell. They used a longitudinal motion, where a cam moved heavy granite roller’s back and forth; rolling and smearing the chocolate mass between the rollers and granite bottoms. These stone beds, rollers and drive cams are shown below:

The intimate contact between the granite rollers and heavy granite slabs, grind the chocolate to a very smooth consistency. The long grinding time (often days,) combined with the heat produced by the friction of grinding, transforms the chocolate by reducing acids, and imparting a caramelized flavor. As other ingredients are added the conch blends the various components that are used in the chocolate recipe and also grind them to a smooth, taste bud pleasing, homogenous, mass. Human taste buds, perceive anything ground finer than 20 microns, to be smooth. As the individual particles of the various ingredients, pass between the rolls and granite beds their sharp edges are smoothed. As they are smeared into the other ingredients they bond to form a homogenous, pourable liquid, which can be molded and shaped into candy bars and other confections.

As with many industries today, with soaring production cost, chocolate processing companies are often forced to look closely at their bottom line. They examine every major process to see if it can be done in a more economic manner. Conching was no exception; This style Conche has a time honored history of producing an exceptionally smooth product. The cost was that it took time, floor space and extra energy consumption. Modern conching machines do take up much less space, use less energy and can produce an “acceptable” product in much less time. However, many will argue that they do so at the expense of the exquisite taste and texture of long conched chocolate. I do know that some things like fine wine and Amore just can’t be hurried!

Fire Protection Tanks

As the summer grows hotter, so does the need for fire protection tanks for buildings, properties and other structures. Fire protection tanks capable of holding large amounts of water are needed in case a fire breaks out, threatening property or lives. Many times, large organizations such as hospitals, factories, and other large businesses will have a need for a separate emergency water system to use in case of a fire. This water is held in water tank ranging in small sizes to up to over 50,000 gallons. These fire protection tanks can be horizontal, or vertical. Sometimes, they are buried underground, or are raised off the ground. Usually these tanks are stored at a distance from the structure in which they were designed to protect.

Fire protection tanks can come in different materials and sizes, ranging from Fiberglass tanks, to large stainless steel tanks. These tanks sometimes are capable of holding pressure. Pressure tanks designed for fire protection are becoming more popular because it limits the need for a pump. Air is pumped in to the tank which creates positive water pressure. Adding this, on top of an elevated tank, may limit the need for a pumping system.

Finding the best type of fire protection tank for your business or organization can sometimes be difficult. The National Fire Protection Association, the authority on fire, electrical, and building safety, recommends reading their standard before installing a fire protection tanks for private use. The standard is called “NFPA 22: STANDARD FOR WATER TANKS FOR PRIVATE FIRE PROTECTION.” The NFPA 22 standard addresses many items, including general information, pressure tanks, wood gravity tanks, and more. Below is a complete list of all of the topics discussed:

From nfpa.org:
General Information
Welded-Steel Gravity Tanks and Suction Tanks
Factory-Coated, Bolted Steel Tanks
Pressure Tanks
Wood Gravity Tanks and Suction Tanks
Embankment-Supported Coated Fabric Suction Tanks
Concrete Gravity Tanks and Suction Tanks
Fiberglass-Reinforced Plastic Tanks
Tank and Tower Foundations in the Ground
Steel Tank Towers
Pipe Connections and Fittings
Valve Enclosures and Frost Protection
Tank Heating
Acceptance Test Requirements
Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water Tanks
*Note, a new edition is due to come out in 2013.

Once you have read the NFPA 22 standards, you then may be able to decide what type of tank you wish to purchase. Used tanks will always be cheaper, but be sure they are in good condition and do not leak. Deciding if you are going to bury your tanks is also important before purchasing. Remember, an underground tank may be more difficult to inspect for leaks or damage once it is installed.

Pricing for these tanks will vary, with stainless steel tanks being higher priced than steel tanks, and fiberglass or plastic tanks being the most inexpensive. If purchasing a plastic tank for any use, sometimes is is almost cheaper to buy new. Fiberglass tanks can be purchased for as low as 50 cents per gallon in some areas, where as steel could go for 50 cents up to 1.50 per gallon depending on the type or condition, and stainless steel tanks could range in $1.00 to $3.00 per gallon, depending on the type of stainless steel used, the condition, and what the tank was previously used for. Remember, these prices always vary depending on the market. You will find most fire protection tanks will be constructed of steel.

Regardless of what kind of tank you buy or use, just be sure it meets all of the legal requirements of a fire protection tank in your locality. Also, be sure to read the national fire protection associations NFPA 22 standard for water tanks for private fire protection.

Lose Weight the Metabolism Way

One major factor that affects weight loss/gain is the body’s metabolism. First of all, people who have a slow metabolism think that they are stuck and are doomed to stay overweight for the rest of their lives because it is difficult to lose weight. That, however, is not the reality of it. Today, several researches have been made on how to not only speed up, but also, how to control the body’s metabolism. The term “Maximum Metabolism” was coined by researchers telling that by maximizing the body’s metabolism, a definite way to lose weight and to speed up weight training is possible.

To start to lose weight is to discuss the ways to achieving the Maximum Metabolism. There are five main metabolic boosters that should be remembered: going on a low fat diet, eating the right carbohydrates, knowing the timing and sequence of meals, maximizing nutrition intake, and regular exercise. These five have been proven as the most important factors in maximizing metabolism.

First on the list of things is going on a low-fat diet. Incorporating the latest research on the problems of fat intake, maximum metabolism has changed several approaches in diets. Having a low-fat diet is a very essential element in weight control. Using less of fatty cuts of lamb, pork, beef, eggs, and organ meats and using more trim cuts such as chicken, turkey and veal not only eliminates unnecessary fats from diets, but also gives the body the right kinds of fats it needs.

It was believed before that eating fats were important due to its high volume of calories than carbohydrates or protein. With such content, fats could serve as substitution for the calories needed as long as there were equal amounts of calories. What researchers didn’t know was that the important factor was not in the calories but in the fats that the food contained because the fats are what make people fat. Due to the fat intake, metabolism slows down and the body’s ability to burn fat also slows down thus creating more fat in the body even though the intake of calories is low. Too much intake of fat makes the body feel sluggish and hinders weight loss. To lose weight significantly, one must definitely avoid fats.

The next factor in maximizing metabolism is in eating the right carbohydrates. There are two kinds of carbohydrates which are the simple and the complex. Simple carbohydrates destroy diets due to the amount of sugar and refined flour in them such as cakes, candies, cookies. Complex carbohydrates contain fiber which is a basic component in digestion and prevents life-threatening diseases from taking place. Examples of complex carbohydrates are breads, potatoes, and grains which are called starchy complex carbohydrates. Non-starchy complex carbohydrates are basically fruits and vegetables.

Due to the difference in content, it takes more energy to form calories from carbohydrates than from fats so it is very helpful for those in a diet. Previously, carbohydrates were considered as fattening but it has turned the other way around as they began to consider it as diet food. But, to be general, what really help in developing a maximum metabolism are the non-starchy complex carbohydrates. The starchy complex carbohydrates should only be eaten in the morning due to the fact that it slows down the metabolism of the whole body. The starch boost in the morning helps you avoid another craving throughout the day. Eating the right kinds of carbohydrates provides more energy to the body thus giving the extra edge in performance.

The third essential element is by knowing the timing and sequence of meals which greatly helps to lose weight. People usually go for the dinner-heavy diet which is done by skipping breakfast then having a light lunch. What people don’t notice is that they usually eat too much because they lose all restraints on what they eat during dinner. Another mistake is that it ruins the body’s metabolism due to the fact that eating less forces the body to store more fats.

The control of insulin or what is known as the “hunger hormone”, is interrupted due to the loss of food which then ruins your metabolism. Usual side effects of having a dinner-heavy diet are headaches and fatigue, spikes in energy levels, and extreme cases of hunger. Also, sleep changes the performance of metabolism which greatly boosts weight gain. They must set up a dinner before 7 P.M. to ensure that the food is digested before going to sleep. Dieters must be persuaded to have balanced and properly set-up meals to ensure maximum metabolism.

The fourth factor in trying to lose weight using maximum metabolism is by maximizing nutrition intake. For the benefit of all, diets are not always about the calories you intake. Low calorie intake leads to not only the loss of fats but to loss of muscles as well. People usually prefer to have moderate calorie reduction than the extreme low-calorie diets that because the loss in muscle is surprisingly larger than that of the fat you lose. A problem faced by low-calorie intake is that it greatly decreases the speed of the body’s metabolism.

Greatest of all the problems is the limited nutrition absorbed from the very limited food that is eaten. When aiming for weight reduction, one must have a proper combination of well planned meals associated with nutritional supplements to ensure that the body is provided with maximum levels of nutrition. It is said that changing the food selection rather than attempting to modify the eating behavior is more effective and efficient for a person. Providing the person with the right food which is rich in nutrients and nutritional supplements will improve metabolism and insure that the person would lose weight

Regular exercise is the last, but definitely not the least in the selection. Exercise speeds up weight loss and improves the health of the one engaged in the diet. Though the diet alone can make people lose weight, exercise will greatly improve it because it burns calories, speeds up metabolism. Due to the exercise, insulin flow is stabilized and the hormones in your body make you feel full, thus leading to lesser food intake. Most importantly, it raises your muscle mass so it could help shape and improve your body.
