Food Holidays

Food Calendar 2013 ~ Food Holidays

Who designates “national” food days?

“National” observances (months, weeks, days) in the USA are determined by three sources:

  1. Presidential proclamation…promoting national interests (Thanksgiving, National School Lunch Week)
  2. Industry/trade associations…promoting member products (National Sandwich Month, National Pie Day)
  3. Source unknown…sounds good, historically feasible, sells copy (National Sandwich Day)

  3. I work at a food pantry and this website is terrific for the social media posts for our center. When we are in need of something there, I can use a food holiday for ideas on what is needed here at our pantry. Thank you so much!

I ran across your site while doing a search on what day today was. Each morning my wife and I spend an hour or two first thing in the morning relaxing and surfing the web looking up unusual pieces of trivia and/or news. I don’t remember the last time I actually bookmarked a site though because it was interesting. Thank you! You made our day! Sincerely, Jeff & Renee
